‘A Capella’, derived from the word ‘chapel’, is basically a song sang by either a person or group without the use of instruments.
Mostly this music is performed by a group of men. Not much women a capella group out there I believe. Some are also performed in solo.
Personally, I really like this style of song, especially the group ones. It’s sorta give you a warm and enjoyable feeling inside.
Unfortunately, It’s pretty rare for anime soundtracks to have an a capella style song. Even if it has, usually it is part of the albums, which is made as alternative rendition of the main theme song.
Here are some of my findings.
1. Zzz, Nichijou
This is my most favorite one. Brilliantly sang by the ladies.
2. Studio Ghibli A Capella Albums
Some Studio Ghibli Anime theme sang in A Capella Style, e.g. Laputa, Ponyo, Princess Mononoke.
Some older anime themes. Most are 1980s anime though. So far, I have found 5 volumes of this, but I believe there is more.
4. Bohemian Rapsody, Casshern Sins
Located in the second ending (Hikari to Kage) albums.
5. Baracarole, Aria the Natural
In the album Aria the Natural Vocal Song Collection.
6. Fuyu no Yousei, Fate Stay Night
In the album La Sola Original Soundtrack. A solo a capella.
Hope I can find more in the future. Enjoy!
